The residency in the heart of the Madonie to explore and innovate.
You will be staying for eight days in Petralia Sottana, a small village with ancient history that testifies its authenticity and natural, artistic, and cultural richness.
It will be a unique opportunity to deepen scientific research by collaborating with organizations, companies, local communities, and schools with the aim of promoting innovative contributions for the benefit of the territory.
You will share your research by participating in the international conference CSX, the UTC Communities Sustainable eXperience, in partnership with Countless Cities, which will mark the conclusion of the residency experience.
Join us from September 17th to 24th, 2023 to reflect on the concepts of design, innovation, and development for a sustainable future.
September 17th - September 24th, 2023
Madonie region, accomodation at the Convent of the Reformed Fathers, Petralia Sottana
4 university researchers, PhD students, or independent researchers
Deadline: 02/08 Notification of application results: 04/08
The innovators' residency will last for 8 days in the period from 17/09 to 24/09.
The open call is open to four university researchers, PhD students, or independent researchers who want to conduct their research in the Madonie area and with the local community.
Innovators who demonstrate interest in sharing their work for the benefit of the area, interacting with local communities, and actively participating in the planned activities will be involved.
There are no restrictions on the origin of the participants other than having a visa for non-EU candidates.
The residency will offer the opportunity to further research while being in contact with the territory, with the aim of promoting innovative contributions in the following areas:
traditional and digital craftsmanship
agri-food
sustainable tourism
management of natural heritage - with a focus on the topic of forest fires
circular economy
sustainable construction and redevelopment
energy communities or other forms of cooperative development
sustainable mobility
If not specified by the individual research, the production of a final project is not required. The output of the project must be a presentation in panel format to be presented during the UTC Communities Sustainable eXperience. In addition, participants will be required to write an article based on their research, which will be published in the conference proceedings. The 4 residents will also be required to prepare a contribution for the CSX junior off-panel, dedicated to students from the Madonie region.
Innovators will be supported, in a preliminary, remote phase, by the PUSH team to better organize their residency by identifying stakeholders connected to their research. They will also be accompanied on-site, during the residency, to facilitate the meeting with the Madonie Living Lab network.
During the residency, participants will stay at the historic Convent of the Reformed Fathers in Petralia Sottana with single rooms and private bathrooms. Within the Convent, they will have access to a small study with a desk and internet connection. (No computers or other multimedia devices are provided.)
During the eight days of the residency, there will be moments for exchange with other researchers, guided tours, community dinners, and a meeting with schools.
Connect with an international network, meet potential collaborators, exchange knowledge, and learn from your colleagues.
Madonie Living Lab will cover the costs of accommodation, internal transportation, and three community dinners. Travel expenses to and from Petralia Sottana are not covered.
